PREY 2 (2024)

Prey 2 (2024), the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 hit Prey, returns to the thrilling world of the Predator franchise with a fresh, intense storyline that promises to push the boundaries of survival horror. Directed once again by Dan Trachtenberg, this next installment dives deeper into humanity’s battle with the relentless alien hunters, introducing a new time period and setting while continuing the legacy of raw, suspense-driven action.

The teaser trailer opens with an ominous, windswept landscape—a remote, snow-covered wilderness set in the 18th century, this time far from the plains of the Comanche Nation. The camera slowly pans over a small group of indigenous people huddled around a fire, their breath visible in the frigid air. A narrator speaks in a low, grave tone: “We’ve fought wars. We’ve survived the harshest winters. But nothing could have prepared us for what’s coming.”

Cut to a quick flash of a Predator ship streaking across the sky, followed by eerie silence as the camera zooms in on the faces of those who witness the unknown craft. They are now the prey.

The trailer quickly shifts to intense, fast-paced action sequences, interspersed with moments of creeping dread. The new protagonist, a fierce young warrior from a northern tribe (played by Amber Midthunder, reprising her role as Naru, or a new descendant linked to her lineage), is shown honing her survival skills in the harsh, icy wilderness. The film’s setting in the frozen tundra brings an entirely new set of challenges, as not only do the characters have to face the ruthless Predator, but also the elements themselves.

Sudden, brutal encounters between the Predator and its human adversaries flash across the screen. There are glimpses of advanced alien weaponry tearing through the thick snow, brutal hand-to-hand combat, and tense moments of stalking in the icy forests. The Predator’s thermal vision cuts through the darkness, revealing its terrifying hunt in the freezing conditions, with blood spattering the white snow in stark contrast.

The protagonist, much like Naru from the original Prey, uses the environment to her advantage, setting traps, relying on her cunning, and utilizing traditional weapons to survive. The trailer emphasizes her resilience and intelligence, showing her leading her tribe in a desperate fight for survival against the highly evolved alien threat. At one point, she spots the faint shimmer of the Predator’s cloaking device, signaling that the hunter is closer than ever.

The trailer teases the Predator’s iconic, spine-chilling growl, followed by a brief glimpse of its terrifying, masked face. As the tension builds, the music swells, and the screen cuts to black, leaving viewers with one final message: “This time, the cold won’t stop them.”

Prey 2 promises to expand the Predator mythos, taking the battle to a new environment and exploring the primal fight for survival in an unforgiving landscape. The film will feature heart-pounding action sequences, stunning cinematography that highlights the beauty and danger of the frozen wilderness, and a suspenseful atmosphere that builds on the franchise’s signature blend of horror and sci-fi.

With a reported budget of $85 million, Prey 2 offers a larger scale than its predecessor, allowing for even more immersive visuals, intense combat scenes, and high-end special effects. Fans of the Predator series can expect a gripping and visceral continuation of the story that began with Naru’s fight against the alien menace, while also introducing new characters, new strategies for survival, and a fresh take on the iconic intergalactic hunters. Prey 2 is set to release on Hulu in 2024, and it’s shaping up to be a thrilling and worthy addition to the Predator franchise.
